Sun, 28 November 2010
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Lastic Man, who probably should have either an E or a P in front of his name, but don't tell the lawyers. Big wins for Incorruptible, Ultimate Spider-Man, Thor: The Mighty Avenger and Taskmaster. Also winning big was the common cold, which soundly defeated Evie - and listener Jen, who soundly defeated Aaron. (post-credits, Aaron narrates his half of a couple of yugioh battles, which did not end well for him.) We bid a fond farewell to Leslie Nielsen, talk a lot about The Boys even though it didn't come out this week, and Aaron invents shoes. Sun, 17 October 2010
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Evie's Birthday, with a special message from her mom! As usual, big wins for The Unwritten and Echo, Bruce Wayne's back before he's gotten back, Aaron can't understand why he doesn't hate Walkin' Supes as much as he probably should, and the new Knight and Squire knocks Evie base over apex and makes her want to shove madam palm and 'er five sisters in the map of tassie, innit? But the book's banging on about faff gives Aaron the habadabs. Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review if you like the show! |
Mon, 11 October 2010
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you almost entirely by the contents of New York Comic Con. (Comicon? Comic-Con? Spiderman? Spider-Man? Spader-James?) We take a break from our usual format of handing out awards to the week's books, and instead hand out awards to the weekend's events, with a smattering of books sprinkled in. Whoa damn, lightning storm here is NUTS. Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review if you like the show! |
Sun, 26 September 2010
This episode of the Awesomed by Comics Podcast is brought to you by a special new game. Not to give anything away, but you're going to want to listen to this show at 4:07 PM, while re-gripping a badminton racquet. Matt Fraction continues Keiron Gillen's streak of strong Thor showings, Jonathan Hickman's FF continues to bring the intrigue, Judd Winick's Justice League: Generation Lost has some great character moments, Ultimate Spidey showcases Bendis's talent for natural dialogue, while Avengers does the exact opposite, and Moon Knight gets some baaaaaaad news. Also, Aaron is attacked by a kitten. Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review if you like the show! |
Sun, 19 September 2010
This very ordinary episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by our new kitten, Bo. Anyone who's ever listened to our show ever should know what we spend a fair amount of time talking about this week. (Boy Bands.) In addition to everyone loving an amazingly creative The Unwritten, Aaron gushes spoilerlessly about Joe the Barbarian, Evie digs the new Power Man, a listener wants us to start reading New Mutants again, and nobody likes bad storytelling timing or whores. Or whores with bad storytelling timing. Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review if you like the show! |
Sun, 12 September 2010
This very special episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast, featuring very special guest Chris Sims, is actually brought to you by some new developments at yet ANOTHER podcast. Thor has maybe one of the most successful weeks in the history of this show, with two amazing books out this week. There's some love for Welcome to Tranquility, Ultimate Mystery, the Batgirl/Supergirl teamup, Batman and Robin and some new comic-related video games, but bla bla bla LET'S TALK ABOUT THOR, BABY!! Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review if you like the show! |
Mon, 6 September 2010
This Labor Day episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by trying not to labor very hard, and also the US Open. And speaking of laboring, Taskmaster #1 is awesome. Other accolades go out to One Month To Live, Last Family of Krypton, Secret Six and Black Cat, while things related to hell are burning out their welcome. Aaron is obsessed with a new video game, and Evie saw lots of half-naked Iggy Pop this weekend, which she forgot to directly mention on the actual show but now you know. Sun, 29 August 2010
This very special episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Chris Neseman! That's right, the famed podcaster from 11 O'Clock Comics and Around Comics joins us in our studio via wormhole from Chicago, and can be credited/blamed for the existence of Awesomed By Comics in the first place. Amadeus Cho is powerfully awesome, Thor is devilishly great, and Science Dog's bark is better than his bite. We talk about why Scott Pilgrim tanked, and get a recommendation for a web comic that is pretty much a sure bet to devour us whole. Also: Should you let your girlfriend win at video games? Tune in for the definitive answer. Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review if you like the show! |
Sun, 22 August 2010
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by DIN-O-SAURS, DIN-O-SAURS, which, hundreds of years ago, were the most. Speaking of Hundreds (wooooo segue!) Ex Machina comes to an end after 50 issues, and there is much oddly vague discussion, so as not to give away the ending for those who read this in trade. Avengers Academy shines, Old Bruce Wayne is a prick, Honey West is super fun, and Israeli snacks are delicious. Also there is an phat beatz. Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review if you like the show! |
Sun, 8 August 2010
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by a question from Aaron: What do you do when you don't feel like reading comics that week? Secret Six inexplicably (and unexplainedly) visits the old west and hijinx ensue, while Sparta and Spidey frustrate, Sweet Tooth hits a soft spot, and The Boys shine even when nothing really happens. Also, what's a 'Reshef?' Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review if you like the show! |

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq.We answer some of your drunk-ass discussion questions, and give a lot of love to cats, caterpillars, gods and clowns. We also utter the most shocking four words in the English language, "We miss Greg Land". Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review if you like the show! |
Sun, 18 July 2010
This week's episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by crazy two-sport athlete conspiracy theories, sandwiched by appearances of one of music's most recognizable tritones. We literally CANNOT say enough good things about the finale of the Boom! series "Codebreakers" -- because saying any more than we did would give the surprises away, and we are demanding that you read it. Superman hits the road to go be a dick somewhere other than Metropolis, The Stuff of Legend and The Unwritten both deliver great work as usual, we lol at Booster Gold, and the X-Men wrap up what turned out to be a fairly solid event by pointlessly murdering innocent and equally endangered creatures. Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review if you like the show! |
Mon, 12 July 2010
This freshman-level episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by LeBron James, who, after a tortuous cost-benefit analysis, has accepted our offer to produce our show from Florida (suck it, War Rocket Ajax). A giant litter of adorable cartoon dalmatians goes out to Sweet Tooth, Secret Six, the Boys; first issues of Scarlet, Avengers: the Children's Crusade and Thor: The Mighty Avenger; and the final, moving issue of this volume of Demo. We also talk about Louis C.K.'s fabulously awkward new sitcom, and the Fantastic Four's answer to Planned Parenthood. Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review! |
Mon, 5 July 2010
Dudes! We did it! We made it to our centennial episode, which is a totally arbitrary thing to celebrate but AWWW YEAAAHHH. We start off this third season of Awesomed By Comics (50 shows per season, why not?) with a bunch of brand new categories, questions, cat stuff, and a very special musical remembrance of episodes of yore. Likely winners include various Wonder Woman-related things, Unknown Soldier, Thor and Batman Beyond; unlikely winners include Green Lantern and Action Comics. We also debut a new version of the theme song, and wish you a happy snappy Fourth O' July! Tell us what you think on our blog and leave an iTunes review! |
Sun, 27 June 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by a second consecutive week of Dogen, because we are apparently getting contemplative as we near our centennial. Spidey and the new JLI are the big winners, a surprising amount of love is given to both Batman and Superman, and there's more tits-talk than usual. (But come on. Camden? Really?) Don't forget to send in your 100th episode discussion questions. One more stamp and we all get free sandwiches! Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |
Tue, 22 June 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics comes to you from Cacapon (Ka-KAY-pon) State Park in Berkeley Springs, WV, where we came for vacation, went home and came back again. The big winner of the week is the fourth issue of Joe Kelly and Max Fiumara's Four Eyes, which we've waited 13 months for; other good showings come from the family of Spider titles, The Boys, Birds of Prey and Heralds (HER-alds). We also have a good chuckle/tsk at DC's pitch-perfect ironical racial stereotyping. Apologies for any wonky sound quality, as we are sharing a mic on a portable setup in the wilderness that also has WiFi. Also apologies for the lack of Panels of the Week, as we don't have our scanner in said wilderness. Also apologies that this show is two days late, but we on vacation (vay-KAY-shun). Sun, 13 June 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by, well, it's not a Hat through the Centuries, I'll tell you that much. We get really into the goings on in Generation Lost/Booster Gold, sign on with Marvel's teen invasion in Avengers Academy and Young Allies, and okay Batman, whatever you say. Secret Six, Unwritten and Echo continue their brilliance, and Thor gets borked. Note that we'll be on vacation next week but still plan to do a show--it just may be a day or so delayed. Also note that this recap is not very funny, but I had a little unplanned hospitalization this week so I appreciate your understanding. Sun, 6 June 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by HITS, which is really the same as HTTC, but shhh. Big wins for DC's imprints, as Sweet Tooth, Sparta USA and Demo showcase some impressive storytelling. The Bulletproof Coffin sets up an interesting premise, The Red Hood is much better than we thought it would be, and Heralds is exactly as good as we thought it would be, which is very very very good. Also, yon peeps shall have thy bottoms rocked mayhaps? Because TERRY MCGINNIS.

Sun, 30 May 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by HTTC, a new segment on the show that you just really don't want to know the origin of. We say goodbye to legendary runs on Wonder Woman and Power Girl, welcome back the Avatar of Death, cheer Jonathan Hickman's wise protest in Fantastic Four, and discuss whether Rise of Arsenal #3 is in fact the worst comic ever written, or just the second worst. Also make sure to stay through the end of the show to hear us take our cats to Taco Bell. This is not a euphemism for anything. Tue, 25 May 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by a second consecutive week of Dio tributes, except this one involves fancy salad and ridiculous shoes. Aaron discovers how all the Grant Morrison Batman fans feel, as he cannot believe how critical Evie is of Bendis's talksturbation-filled Avengers #1. Ex Machina shocks by seeminly wrapping up an issue early, (and we don't spoil it) Aaron loves the hungry hungry hijinx of Galacta, and Evie says long live the Legion relaunch (what is this, volume 17? 18?) Also a little bit of Lost-talk, because of course. Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |
Sun, 16 May 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the pop art commercialization of an ancient fable. In a week with WAY, WAY, WAY more comics than anyone should have to read in a week, Siege finishes up without incident, the Heroic Age kicks off with the most worthy of champions, Booster Gold is funny again, the Unwritten is predictably stellar, pets have accidents, and the Sentry's farewell is somethin else alright. We extend a thank you and welcome to new listeners and then proceed half-cocked, and the thesaurus plays an integral role. Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |
Sun, 9 May 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by a flashback to the last episode of Awesomed By Comics, because this joke isn't getting old even a little bit. Secret Six, Codebreakers and Echo kill with badassery, Brightest Day is totally like whatever, Batman and Robin is surprising, maybe? and we give our obligatory review of Iron Man 2. In honor of Free Comic Book Day, this episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is absolutely free! We discuss the predictable death of a certain X-Man, Marvel's Iron Man copout, another faithful Jim Henson adaptation, and the joys of owls, funny ghosts and puppies. Aaron is impressed by complex storytelling set in war-torn sub-saharan Africa, and Evie loves owls, funny ghosts and puppies. Also we talk to some kids about comics we don't read and know nothing about, then we talk to an adult about comics we don't read and know nothing about - but now own.. Also also, Aaron's on Twitter! Mon, 26 April 2010
This "Evie's Back!" episode of the Awesomed by Comics Podcast is brought to you by a super sneak preview of a future episode! SPOILERS!!! This week we are blown away by a ladies' night on the town, discuss why Firestar isn't any fun but we love her anyway, and say farewell to a certain bucket-headed space-farer. Also the Kick-Ass movie makes the Kick-Ass comic look like SHIT. (And go see How to Train Your Dragon instead.) Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |
Sun, 18 April 2010
This week's episode proves that ABCP isn't our show, it's YOUR show. Actually, no, it's still our show, but several of you are on it this week. Listeners from around the world fill in for the once again AWOL Evie (back to normal next week, we promise!) You guys convince Aaron to go get Atomic Robo and X-Factor Forever, talk about Loki's badassery, discuss the Kick Ass movie's kickassery, and one of you spent as much time editing your three minutes as Aaron did on the whole show (with hilarious results.) Plus two special guests at the beginning and another one at the end. Oh, and Aaron loves Batgirl. Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |
Sun, 11 April 2010
To North Philadelphia we won't go, on three comics is where we spent most of this show. Demo number three, S.H.I.E.L.D. number one, and Thor and the Warriors Four were all fun. Sparta USA has us both enthused, while Evie gets the Nemesis comics confused, Aaron loses to a listener at Pokemon battling, and we talk illegal downloads (don't you go tattling.) We're sponsored by Jaguars in a musical skit, and THIS SHOW MAKES KICK ASS LOOK LIKE $H!T. Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |
Sun, 4 April 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Speed Racer Has a Posse, because Jesus has risen. Punisher kicks tons of ass, Spider-Man goes on a satisfying date for once, and Cloak and Dagger don't do much of anything. We reflect at length on the throbbing whatever that was Blackest Night, and spend unprecedented numbers of minutes talking about the cripplingly depressive entity that is Funky Winkerbean. We also give a shout out to our friends at the War Rocket Ajax podcast and suggest you pay them a visit, because spring is for making new friends. This very special episode of the Awesomed by Comics Podcast is brought to you by Mysterius the Unfathomable, which we actually spend very little time discussing, despite the fact that the book's creators, Tom Fowler and Jeff Parker (collectively: "Forker!") join us for a full two hours. Power Girl, Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, Regular Spider-Man, and the return of a certain Kitty (Hint: Not Honey Boy) all win big, as do a few Marvel Premieres from 1977, because they're AS GOOD AS THREE COMICS. And Tom can probably forget about pencilling next summer's 480-issue "Image United II featuring Deadpool." Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |
Mon, 22 March 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by half of the War Rocket Ajax, which was kind enough to lend us one gently used Chris Sims for the episode. Chris sits in for Evie and takes issue with our dislike of Batman and Robin #10, and my love of most things Joe Kelly. Hercules: Death of an Avenger wins multiple awards, Archie comics are discussed on the show for the first time ever, and despite decades of comics reading between the two hosts, nobody can remember whether Thanos has ever had eye beams or not. Sun, 14 March 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Sausage or Death Metal Band? Feel free to play along at home, Google probably won't help you. A wonderful last issue wraps up Kieron Gillen and Steven Sanders' tragically abandoned S.W.O.R.D., Criminal finishes another tense arc, Pet Avengers starts a delightful new one, and the Unwritten and Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man continue to rule. Also, Bruce Wayne is not the effing Riddler. Note that Evie will be away for SXSW next week, so Aaron may or may not have special surprises planned in her absence. Stay tuned. This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by tonight's actual Oscars, which as you may know, our show is a little bit like, if it were quite a bit different. Boys and a Man show what they're made of, Underground wraps up on high, and ladies step up in Girl Comics. We also detail our pitch for Marvel Horses, and swoon over the newest incarnation of animated Bruce Wayne. Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by just the best most beautiful laptop ever, yes you are we love you so muchy much, you have no reason to ever get mad at us and not work when we're trying to record the show again, no you don't, you're just so perfect and hot, by the way have you lost weight? We LOL at X-Factor, have a sadz at the end of Ms. Marvel, and hype the skillz of Gail Simone, Matt Sturges and Joshua Dysart for Wonder Woman, The Web and Unknown Soldier, respectively. We also talk about Dwayne McDuffie's killer new Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths animated Timmverse movie, and wonder what possessed James Robinson to get so freaky in Superman. Also, Warren Ellis writes a parody of a Warren Ellis comic, and Aaron thinks it's totally awesome. Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |
Wed, 17 February 2010
This tardy episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by a very special message from Marvel Comics, as well as Awesomed By Comics' new slogan, whatever that might be. SWORD is sharp as ever, Secret Six explodes, and Unwritten kills like a Nazi. Barks, maos and pigeon coos of approval for Tails of the Pet Avengers #1, and an ever expected welcome for the dream team on Pixie Strikes Back. This Superbowl Sunday episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Raisins! For some reason? Or how about the New Orleans Saints. That's probably more topical. Wolverine Weapon X is sweet, and Sweet Tooth is bitter, and both are awesome; Wonder Woman still isn't selling the Star Sapphire thing, and Aaron pans Nova, because the weekend's killer snowstorm apparently made it to hell. A new season of "Lost" premieres, and nachos. Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |
Sun, 31 January 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by efforts to add more cricket references to our podcast, because that's good show business. Unknowns in the form of Soldiers and Devils Made Flesh win big, as do X-Factor and Guardians of the Galaxy. Weird scheduling issues get a take down, and Wonder Woman's new villains look suspciously like tiny versions of AC/DC guitarist Angus Young. Sun, 24 January 2010
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by a significant size clarification, (it matters!) and a poor excuse for one of our hosts' bad behavior. Evie and Aaron give respect to all the amazing ladies this week (Power Girl, Anna Mercury, Black Widow, Amanda Conner, perhaps some horses?) and could Ronan/Crystal be the best relationship in comics? J'accuse! Hercules keeps going strong, and Mark Waid keeps writing great sequels. Also, we don't talk about this in the show, but the Saints just won, so now Aaron won't have to choose which of two of the most annoying people on the planet to root for in the Super Bowl.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by another horse giving different bridge advice, so get out your notepad. Dr. Strange and various X-Men impress, as do their adorable Canadian boyfriends, and the reformed Rhino warms our hearts. Mike Carey's The Unwritten continues to kill it, and the ending of Christos Gage's Absolution sparks a lukewarm debate. We also get to the bottom of the misidentified Amazing Spider-Man cover artist controversy, which we admit was our mistake, but then they mess up the credits this week so WHO(M) DO YOU TRUST?

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by TECHMOLOGY, the
kind that makes you sound like a hamster or a methfreak or a
misogynist. In this first episode of twentyten, we cheer Peter David's
lovable X-Men-mocking X-Factor: Nation X one-shot, fear Suicide Squad's Amanda Waller and Sweet Tooth's
Mr. Jefferts, and jeer the idea that Wonder Woman would make a more
logical Star Sapphire than Green Arrow. We also get a visit from a
favorite friend of the show, and wax cautiously optimistic about Siege and the end (?) of the Osborn Era.

Kyle Rainer wins the All-Time Super Contest for Cheesiest Ways to
Rejoin the Living, and Power Girl gets hit on by the supreme leader of

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Aaron's mea culpa regarding microphone technique, which is ironic since his mic distorts for a minute at the very beginning, and he didn't notice. Secret Six and S.W.O.R.D. win big, partially because they're two of the four books Evie read, but mostly because they win everything when they come out anyway. Aaron gushes over Paul Tobin's Marvel All-Ages output, and claims to have coined the phrase "Tobinverse," although he may or may not have. Also, we decide the X-Men anthology books are better than anything else X-related.

This very special episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by
Fun Facts About Rochester, NY, where we have recorded the show on
location at (a hotel a few miles away from) the Strong National Museum of Play.
In addition to an exhibit on American Comic Book Heroes and the
National Toy Hall of Fame, the museum houses a fully stocked '80s video
arcade, a supermarket just for kids, a fantastic interactive Sesame
Street exhibition, and enough wandering toddlers to feed a medium-sized
nation. Big winners in the comics department this week include Detective Comics, Wonder Woman, Beasts of Burden, Ares, Dominic Fortune and New Avengers, and hilarious, exasperated furor is reserved for the likes of Blackest Night and JLA. Be sure to check out the visual offerings for this episode at the blog, as there are far more this week than the typical.

slew of excellent debuts this week as we give it up for Kieron Gillen,
Steven Sanders and Jamie McKelvie's stunning S.W.O.R.D. #1, Mark Waid and Emma Rios' superb Strange #1, and Paul Cornell and Leonard Kirk's daring Dark X-Men #1. This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by music, some of which is made by us or friends of ours and is good; some of which stole Evie away, and is bad. Very, very bad. While Evie is AWOL, Aaron is aroused and impressed by Chrissie Zullo's hot babe cover of Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love #1, while being repulsed and insulted by David Finch's hot babe cover of Psylocke #1. Aaron also is incredibly enthralled with the intricate worlds quickly created by Mark Waid and Christos Gage in The Unknown: The Devil Made Flesh #2 and Absolution #3 respectively. Aaron was also shocked by the motivation reveal in The Mighty #10 and enjoyed the start of the Assault on New Olympus storyline, despite a last-page appearance by a certain 'snikt'-er who just has to get his greasy little sporks into every event, doesn't he.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by something nonsensical and kind of awful. Incredible Hercules wraps up a heroic tale of yes, please, and Kieron Gillen declares sweet war on other new mainstream creators with a triumphant new Ares series for Marvel. We learn a lot about Batwoman's past, and Wonder Woman seems kind of screwed, but she'll probably figure it out. Also, KANG.

Speaking of domesticated animals, Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson's Beasts of Burden wins our hearts, as does Power Girl's cat, and her trip to IKEA. Chew holds onto its title as the Surprise Hit of the Summer well into October, and the new run on JLA, hopefully off a steep cliff, begins. This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the latest entry in our rap battle beef war with War Rocket Ajax,
and holy cats is it a heartbreaking, dream-making love-taker. Brother I

irregular.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Asparagus. It will cut you. We mourn the loss of a top-notch Runaways creative team that got cut too short, and marvel (small "m") at the shagtastic thriller that is Herogasm. A very intriguing first issue of Mark Waid's The Unknown: The Devil Made Flesh leaves us wanting much more, and Marvel Divas rends Aaron's heart in fricking TWO.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the block-rockin' beats of a certain indestructible mutant MC who stepped up to throw down in our rap battle with the poseur zeroes at the War Rocket Ajax podcast. Breathe his hype man's rarefied air and suck it. Winners this week include Echo, Incredible Hercules, and Power Girl's kitty. Hey now. Also, come see us this Thursday night at MOCCA on a panel about Comics and the Press.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Thomas Kinkade, Painter of F&$%&* Light, how f*&%(^ awesome is that guy. We extend a warm welcome to new listeners brought via the recent recommendations of respected comics creators and commentators, and then swiftly proceed to go off the trolley like the walnut-brained mouthbreathers that we are. Beasts of Burden and Agents of Atlas get hearty nods, while M.O.D.O.K. demands pancakes, which is perfectly reasonable.

This Very Special Episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you LIVE or possibly recorded from San Francisco, California. We're very excited to have iFanboy's own Ron Richards join the party this week and offer his own picks for our categories, as well as insight into why there are so many batcrap crazy people in this city. A bunch of exciting stuff happens but I've already forgotten what because we're on damn vacation, so just listen to the show.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by How Grass and Trees Become Enlightened, because those crazy monks are at it again. In a week full of some top-notch comicbookery, mindblowing art hails from Batwoman and Horse Thor, Wonder Woman gets dumped, Herogasm gets serious, and Guardians of the Galaxy makes all of Aaron's teenage dreams come true. Also, we give Peter David a suggestion for how to pluralize "Jamie Maddrox," because it could obviously come in handy.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by some horse
products, which are hilarious just for existing. Horses. Heh. We're
back after a car-calamity-induced absence with mad praise for Ex Machina, mad love for Ponyo, and mad madatness for yet another sloppy Batgirl relaunch. Love is in the air for Deadpool and the Tiny Titans, and that was some damn good lasagna, damn.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the Lighter Side of the Coffee News, hey-o! Evie is back this week but doesn't do much to rein in one of Aaron's more fiery Hal Jordan-related rants to date, and there's a lot of love for the shrieking undead and projectile vomiting. Spunky redheads cash in this week, because what the hell else is new in comics, and the secret identity need-to-know standards in Amazing Spider-Man are getting out of hand.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Muddy Road, the
"My Way" of Zen Koans. Evie was away this weekend covering another
music festival, but we've taken too much time off lately, so Aaron's
flying solo for a (mostly) swear-free half-sized episode. Unknown
Soldier wins huge, and Aaron demands that everyone go find a copy of "The Stuff of Legend" which is Fables-level good.
Aaron spends very little time talking about the New Warriors or Pokemon, despite the fact that nobody was there to stop him from doing so. Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |

"Cheerio" to Captain Britain and MI 13,
give a Heaving Tiger Love Tug to Immortal Weapons #1, and make a
fool-proof plan for going to SDCC next year without whining or
homicides. Also tune in for our enlightening (GET IT?) review of DC
Animated's upcoming Green Lantern: First Flight movie.

Hornswagglers, crafty peddlers of Wildean wit and lucid dreams for all.
Dark X-Men: The Beginning #1
makes a solid showing, General Zod shows some heart, and Warren Ellis
proves that he will never run out of thoroughly effed-up ideas with
the last panel of No Hero #6.
We make ABC history with the first episode in which Evie's Book of the
Week is Aaron's Crap of the Week. Or maybe it's happened before, we
can't remember.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Onions, the
windshield wipers of the 19th century and a sandwich must. It's another
Secret Six and Agents of Atlas week, so you know what that means, although Joe Kelly's Bang Tango, Peter Tomasi's Mighty, and the delightful debut of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Marvel Divas clean up nice as well. We join the hordes of rubberneckers in re: Justice League: Cry for Justice, and admit to reading and sort of enjoying Barack the Barbarian, sober even. Happy Fourth of July!

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Funny Things
That Happened To Aaron On the Way Home from Work on Thursday, as well
as the Angel of Death, who's been a real insufferable prick this week.
The stunning debut of Batwoman in Detective Comics faces off against the new Runaways creative team with glorious results, and Ms. Marvel
is flying pretty high as well. Wonder Woman and Hercules both stand up
to olympic-sized Greek god dickery, Aaron brags about his Canadar, and
we talk some trash about colors. Happy Pride!

This special one-year-anniversary 50th episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Awesomed By Comics' Greatest Hits. Order in the next 15 minutes and receive a full year of Awesomed By Comics episodes, normally free, for only $59.95. We make yet another plea for everyone to buy 18 issues each of Jeff Parker and Tom Fowler's Mysterius the Unknown, and not just because Aaron is immortalized as a muddy dirty hippie in this week's final issue. Garth Ennis takes it next level with Herogasm #2, and it's starting to sink in that Brian K. Vaughan's Ex Machina is actually going to end soon.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by a special EXCLUSIVE sneak preview of a special upcoming Marvel special Noir special event, and also a shout-out to Iowa Lieutenant Governor Patty Judge. Abnett and Lanning give Aaron a double cosmic nerdgasm, while Joe Kelly continues his inexplicable killer tear by jumping on Amazing Spider-Man, because why the hell not. You'll never guess which new creator team RUNS AWAY with with the gold. Sigh, is it June already?

Vertigo introduces a Mugglerific new series, Dracula does a doozy on MI13, and X-Factor by Peter David has some long-awaited kissing (also, we hear that Peter David likes to know when podcasts discuss books by Peter David, so we thought we'd make sure to give Peter David a googleable heads-up). Finally, Gail Simone's Secret Six once again OWNS EVERYTHING, because shut up.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by photos of local singles who are looking for you, they sure are! Tons of stuff this week, from cosmic warring to divine magic to Brechtian thrills to animals in lingerie. The flatness of Barry Allen's return is made up for by the debut of a new Power Girl series (TA-DOW), and we learn we're not quite nerdy enough for some comic book humor but that's what the googles are for.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by recliners, mind-boggling technology failure, and a very special message from Marvel and the next best thing to Sally Struthers. Gail Simone buries the competition with a pitch-perfect, rump-busting, life-and-death-and-sex-affirming issue of Secret Six, and Jeff Parker's new Exiles series is pretty sweet too. Apparently we're also supposed to be worried about Tim Drake, but I think we all know better than that jazz.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by comics-related
pick-up lines, and yes this is a Batarang in my pocket. Abnett &
Lanning, Jeff Parker and other unsung heroes prove yet again that we
really don't need to be reading comics by anyone else, but we do
anyway, so that we can be utterly underwhelmed by certain highly
anticipated superstar snoozefests. Vertigo's Greatest Hits closes out a jolly good run, and a douche with a giant face for a torso doesn't get nearly enough time to shine.

We are extremely excited to announce that this episode of Awesomed By
Comics is sponsored by an official exclusive preview from DC Comics
that YOU DO WANT TO MISS. Landridge's Muppet Show charms, Abnett and Lanning deliver across the cosmic board, and Ubu Bubu
wraps up with what is easily the most enterprising use of rectal vomit
in a comic book this month. Also, we totally sing "Rainbow Connection"
at the end of the show, bitches.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by a steady stream of technical difficulties as well as a man from Nantucket. This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by nothing and no
one, everything and everyone, namaste. We go off the beaten path with
awards for Captain Britain, Hexed, Special Forces
and all the rock you can handle. Evie and Aaron disagree on some
mainstream launches, and agree that Aaron makes a fine pasta sauce.
Also, a winner is announced in our latest contest, but keep those
entries coming.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Meat Twister,
left hand pork cutlet, right hand tripe! We leave the Watchmen jibber
jabber for a separate bonus show, and celebrate the fact that while a
mixed bag, none of this week's comics screamed for Crap of the Week.
Watery books like Submariner: the Depths and Spider-Man Human Torch: Bahia de los Muertos float to the top, as does Abnett and Lanning's start on War of Kings, which breaks Aaron and Evie's hearts on behalf of Ronan the sad, sad Accuser.

This special double-sized* episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to
you by "inch time foot gem," which proves there is sadly no such thing
as a LOLBuddah, or something. In yet another week where good books get
fricking canceled, we tip our hats to She-Hulk and Blue Beetle, but say a warm, desperate hello to the healing pencils of Takeshi Miyazawa on two favorite titles. Be
sure to stay tuned (or fast forward if you get bored) until after the
closing music, when Saddest Guardian™ Scar brings you a
not-to-be-missed bonus Origins & Omens backstory about Evie and
Aaron.
*"Double-sized" in the way that She-Hulk and Incredible Hercules were "double-sized" this week, in that we went over our normal show length by like 20% or so. |
Sun, 22 February 2009
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Learning to Be
Silent, a zen koan that we will never learn in a million years. We say
goodbye to birds of the Prey and Robin varieties, get our Coraline on, and can't help giving a laugh-out-loud award to Jeff Parker's sort of mean joke in Mysterius the Unfathomable. Big wins to Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Factor, which we do not spoil, you're welcome Peter David.

This week's episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Cheeseburger Facts, whereas last week's episode was not brought to you at all by orthomyxoviridae. Aaron and Evie recap New York Comic Con ever so concisely and rave about the animated Princess of Paradise.

This very special episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Hilarious Reasons That It's Better To Be a Woman than a Man, am I right ladies? Abnett and Lanning hit one out of the space park with Nova #21, we say farewell to the Legion, Terry Moore quietly excels and Wonder Woman makes a move. Last but certainly not least, DO NOT miss our EXTRA SPECIAL EXCLUSIVE interview with the God of Sea Mammals of Comics, who answers ALL of your undoubtedly many, many, many questions about Final Crisis #7.

This (late, apologies) episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Two and a Half Men! Two and a Half Men! Two and a Half Men! who, it must be said, have done it again. Evie and Aaron freak out a little over X-Factor #39, and strenuously respect but deny Peter David's request not to spoil it. As a result of all this Dark Crisis Faces of Death Evil Reign of Bad stuff being a big downer during this new real-world era of Hope and Change (and bankruptcies and layoffs), Marvel's delightful all-ages books win big, although Dan Slott also gets major points for bringing actual Avengers back to an Avengers book.

Sun, 25 January 2009
Hey kids, just a note that if you're waiting for the Episode #32, it will
probably be up some time on Monday, apologies. We got a late start, and
then Aaron's computer crashed 45 minutes into recording, so we had to
slap in some enthusiasm and start over. Many thanks for your patience.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the Forkies,
who are enraptured. In a week where the Big Two fight for easy press,
the biggest story for us is the beautiful conclusion of I Kill Giants, which made Aaron cry even harder than the end of Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Captain Britain and MI13
turns in another fine chapter, and two series starring kick-ass ladies
come to a premature end. SPOILER: Batman died. SPOILER TWO: Batman will
be alive again soon enough. Happy new president week!
ALSO: Because we got a lot of follow-up questions to last week's show--here is the link to the iTunes store for Aaron's band, or search for "The Ampersands" (album called "And") at Rhapsody, Napster, eMusic, CD Baby, or wherever you get those things. |

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is sponsored by... oh lord I can't
even type it, let's just say that Aaron has sunk to new lows and move
on. It's a colon-friendly show as Black Lightening: Year One, Submariner: The Depths, Sandman: The Dreamhunters,
and others score big, not to mention the Shredded Wheat. Aaron finally
plugs his band, and Evie gets weepy over hamsters in love. Starring
special guest stars the Philadelphia Eagles.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is sponsored by Frogfucius, who say
"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every
time we do. Ribbit." Aaron and Evie ring in the New Year with piles of
praise for Hercules, Incognito and Gigantic,
but find the Holocaust disappointing. New Year's resolutions include
less eating and more shitty music. Also, could we see some more
Wolverine in '09? We'd really like to learn more about what makes that
guy tick.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by "Alphabet
Bitches" by Lil' Wayne, which incidentally settles a question or two
about Black Adam's late bride. I Kill Giants once again gets the gush treatment, and Final Crisis #5
barely qualifies for an award of its own. Awards also go to nasty jerks
and a delightfully adapted PowerPoint presentation. Aaron presents an
urban allegory to answer all your questions about how the likes of Ed
Benes, Grant Morrison, etc. are allowed to keep doing what they do without
consequence.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is sponsored by a very nice and not
bad-looking girl who is bored this evening, would you like to chat? In
this very special show, Evie and Aaron interview a certain Big Shot
Writer who may or may not answer all of your burning questions about a
certain blockbuster "summer" crossover event whose "shocking"
conclusion was released this "week". So be sure to stay tuned for that
bonus segment about midway through. Also, Aaron gets excited about lots
of green-skinned space babes, and the Punisher brings the hurt in the
name of Our Lord and Savior. X-Men Noir debuts, albeit without any of these promised black X-Men, and Criminal #7 STEALS the show. HA HA.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by More Comic Book
Knock-Knock Jokes, because INTERRUPTING INTERGALACTIC STARFISH. Evie
and Aaron are a little bloaty and slow after Thanksgiving, but still
manage to get a bolt of disdainful adrenaline out of Batman RIP (and
think Grant Morrison could learn a lot from Shang-Chi, Master of Kung
Fu). The conclusion to Hickman and Ringuet's excellent Transhuman series is Monkey-tastic, and this time we mean the kind without Peter Tork.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Practice, which makes pizza pies, Punisher plots and porpoises, in addition to perfect. Evie and Aaron try to think of what could possibly make Wolverine more badass and popular, and discuss why Mayor Hundred doesn't need to be. Andy Diggle's electrifying (GET IT??) first issue of Thunderbolts earns some nods.
Be sure also to download Episode #24a, the bonus Monkey Variant. Don't let the previous Zombie Variant deter you. Really. |

Episode #23 of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Pasta, because eyyyyyyy, how YOU doin? You wanna go get some wheels n sauce? This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by a Brand New Day--starring Barack Obama and decidedly not Mephisto-orchestrated--as well as some crap that Aaron made up about poor Oscar Hammerstein. This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by OH MY GOD NOVEMBER 4TH CANNOT GET HERE FAST ENOUGH LET'S DO THIS THING ALREADY. Warren Ellis can't avoid winning several ABC awards after writing 694 books this week, and Incredible Hercules remains Marvel's strongest title, and not just because of all the sexy. Raise your hand if you secretly want the Brown Bomber to get an ongoing.

Sun, 26 October 2008
This week's Awesomed By Comics is sponsored by whinging Chinese ghosts, because Two and a Half Men jokes are so pre-economic crisis. We celebrate this 20th episode with a brutal Twenty Questions smack-down, and big event comics are anything but. Aaron oh-so-unpredictably finds a hero in Top Shelf's The Man Who Loved Breasts, and then frames Evie for a rude sound. Make sure you're registered to vote.
