This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the world's
only horse-engineered audio recording of our cat eating. I know, right,
happy holidays! Shocking turns in Mark Waid's The Unknown: the Devil Made Flesh and Brian K. Vaughan's Ex Machina score big, as does Jeff Parker and Steve Lieber's simulated waterboarding in Underground.
Kyle Rainer wins the All-Time Super Contest for Cheesiest Ways to
Rejoin the Living, and Power Girl gets hit on by the supreme leader of
Earth-Diggler. Also, do not miss us and many other special guests on
the War Rocket Ajax Christmas Special, available Monday Dec. 21 at noon EST! We sing, like for real.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Aaron's mea culpa regarding microphone technique, which is ironic since his mic distorts for a minute at the very beginning, and he didn't notice. Secret Six and S.W.O.R.D. win big, partially because they're two of the four books Evie read, but mostly because they win everything when they come out anyway. Aaron gushes over Paul Tobin's Marvel All-Ages output, and claims to have coined the phrase "Tobinverse," although he may or may not have. Also, we decide the X-Men anthology books are better than anything else X-related.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by a horse's
advice on playing bridge, and our brand new Kirby-cracklefied logo.
Word. Magnificent mathiness this week in Echo, musical mirth in Deadpool Team-Up and marvelous magic in Strange and Black Widow & The Marvel Girls. New star fave Kieron Gillen takes over Thor, and Fantastic Mr. Fox gets tremendous mileage out of a fist pump.

This very special episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by
Fun Facts About Rochester, NY, where we have recorded the show on
location at (a hotel a few miles away from) the Strong National Museum of Play.
In addition to an exhibit on American Comic Book Heroes and the
National Toy Hall of Fame, the museum houses a fully stocked '80s video
arcade, a supermarket just for kids, a fantastic interactive Sesame
Street exhibition, and enough wandering toddlers to feed a medium-sized
nation. Big winners in the comics department this week include Detective Comics, Wonder Woman, Beasts of Burden, Ares, Dominic Fortune and New Avengers, and hilarious, exasperated furor is reserved for the likes of Blackest Night and JLA. Be sure to check out the visual offerings for this episode at the blog, as there are far more this week than the typical.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the metalest
costume wear since the Weezer snuggie, stay cool. Marvel's newest
cosmic event Realm of Kings takes off like a rocket, and the ladies of Terry Moore's Echo and Jeff Parker and Steve Lieber's Underground
take multiple top honors. We also get giddy over the return of the Joe
Kelly/Ken Niimura team-up in this week's Amazing Spider-Man back-up,
and Aaron fulfills a favorite creator's musical request.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Robo Zen,
because it's pretty much the only combination we haven't tried yet. A
slew of excellent debuts this week as we give it up for Kieron Gillen,
Steven Sanders and Jamie McKelvie's stunning S.W.O.R.D. #1, Mark Waid and Emma Rios' superb Strange #1, and Paul Cornell and Leonard Kirk's daring Dark X-Men #1. The Bat Books continue to inspire angst, and Unwritten remains a stack-toppin' smash. There's also an above-average amount of Pokemon stuff. Let's go Pats.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by something nonsensical and kind of awful. Incredible Hercules wraps up a heroic tale of yes, please, and Kieron Gillen declares sweet war on other new mainstream creators with a triumphant new Ares series for Marvel. We learn a lot about Batwoman's past, and Wonder Woman seems kind of screwed, but she'll probably figure it out. Also, KANG.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the Valley Shepherd Creamery, where we met some totally badass sheep who totally wanted to hang with us for more than our snacks. Speaking of domesticated animals, Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson's Beasts of Burden wins our hearts, as does Power Girl's cat, and her trip to IKEA. Chew holds onto its title as the Surprise Hit of the Summer well into October, and the new run on JLA, hopefully off a steep cliff, begins. Please be sure to download the War Rocket Ajax Halloween Special this week, where we are delightful, or at least shrill, special guests.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by tea, zen and scalding all over your lap. Incredible Hercules shines in ball-kickin', nipple-twistin' onomatopoeic glory, and Mike Carey's awesome The Unwritten makes no sense in the best possible way. Deadpool and Spider-Man mini-story anthologies get points, and Batgirl starts to begrudgingly meet our requests, while also demonstrating DC's sore need for good teen-themed pencilers.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the latest entry in our rap battle beef war with War Rocket Ajax,
and holy cats is it a heartbreaking, dream-making love-taker. Brother I
mean Doctor Voodoo works his magic, and the long-awaited wrap-up to Planetary
is universally (GET IT?) lauded. A lot of good-guys-turned-bad this
week, and WTF is up with that thing that Batman did? That was highly
irregular.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Asparagus. It will cut you. We mourn the loss of a top-notch Runaways creative team that got cut too short, and marvel (small "m") at the shagtastic thriller that is Herogasm. A very intriguing first issue of Mark Waid's The Unknown: The Devil Made Flesh leaves us wanting much more, and Marvel Divas rends Aaron's heart in fricking TWO.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Thomas Kinkade, Painter of F&$%&* Light, how f*&%(^ awesome is that guy. We extend a warm welcome to new listeners brought via the recent recommendations of respected comics creators and commentators, and then swiftly proceed to go off the trolley like the walnut-brained mouthbreathers that we are. Beasts of Burden and Agents of Atlas get hearty nods, while M.O.D.O.K. demands pancakes, which is perfectly reasonable.

This Very Special Episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you LIVE or possibly recorded from San Francisco, California. We're very excited to have iFanboy's own Ron Richards join the party this week and offer his own picks for our categories, as well as insight into why there are so many batcrap crazy people in this city. A bunch of exciting stuff happens but I've already forgotten what because we're on damn vacation, so just listen to the show.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by How Grass and Trees Become Enlightened, because those crazy monks are at it again. In a week full of some top-notch comicbookery, mindblowing art hails from Batwoman and Horse Thor, Wonder Woman gets dumped, Herogasm gets serious, and Guardians of the Galaxy makes all of Aaron's teenage dreams come true. Also, we give Peter David a suggestion for how to pluralize "Jamie Maddrox," because it could obviously come in handy.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the Lighter Side of the Coffee News, hey-o! Evie is back this week but doesn't do much to rein in one of Aaron's more fiery Hal Jordan-related rants to date, and there's a lot of love for the shrieking undead and projectile vomiting. Spunky redheads cash in this week, because what the hell else is new in comics, and the secret identity need-to-know standards in Amazing Spider-Man are getting out of hand.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Muddy Road, the
"My Way" of Zen Koans. Evie was away this weekend covering another
music festival, but we've taken too much time off lately, so Aaron's
flying solo for a (mostly) swear-free half-sized episode. Unknown
Soldier wins huge, and Aaron demands that everyone go find a copy of "The Stuff of Legend" which is Fables-level good.
Aaron spends very little time talking about the New Warriors or Pokemon, despite the fact that nobody was there to stop him from doing so. Tell us what you think on our blog, visit our show forum, and leave an iTunes review! |

fool-proof plan for going to SDCC next year without whining or
homicides. Also tune in for our enlightening (GET IT?) review of DC

the last panel of No Hero #6.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Onions, the

Secret Six and Agents of Atlas week, so you know what that means, although Joe Kelly's Bang Tango, Peter Tomasi's Mighty, and the delightful debut of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Marvel Divas clean up nice as well. We join the hordes of rubberneckers in re: Justice League: Cry for Justice, and admit to reading and sort of enjoying Barack the Barbarian, sober even. Happy Fourth of July!

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Funny Things
That Happened To Aaron On the Way Home from Work on Thursday, as well
as the Angel of Death, who's been a real insufferable prick this week.
The stunning debut of Batwoman in Detective Comics faces off against the new Runaways creative team with glorious results, and Ms. Marvel
is flying pretty high as well. Wonder Woman and Hercules both stand up
to olympic-sized Greek god dickery, Aaron brags about his Canadar, and
we talk some trash about colors. Happy Pride!

We make yet another plea for everyone to buy 18 issues each of Jeff Parker and Tom Fowler's Mysterius the Unknown, and not just because Aaron is immortalized as a muddy dirty hippie in this week's final issue. Garth Ennis takes it next level with Herogasm #2, and it's starting to sink in that Brian K. Vaughan's Ex Machina is actually going to end soon.

Tons of stuff this week, from cosmic warring to divine magic to Brechtian thrills to animals in lingerie. Hey loves,
A million apologies, there will be no new episode of Awesomed By Comics this week, due to the necessity of a complete operating system reinstall for the studio computer for a bunch of reasons that are not interesting. But we will be back next week, and in fact may have it done a day early because I have to be in an all-day training Sunday and will not accept skipping two shows in a row. Please take this opportunity to download an episode you missed, I know you haven't been entirely faithful, you scamps.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by recliners, mind-boggling technology failure, and a very special message from Marvel and the next best thing to Sally Struthers. Gail Simone buries the competition with a pitch-perfect, rump-busting, life-and-death-and-sex-affirming issue of Secret Six, and Jeff Parker's new Exiles series is pretty sweet too. Apparently we're also supposed to be worried about Tim Drake, but I think we all know better than that jazz.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by comics-related
pick-up lines, and yes this is a Batarang in my pocket. Abnett &
Lanning, Jeff Parker and other unsung heroes prove yet again that we
really don't need to be reading comics by anyone else, but we do
anyway, so that we can be utterly underwhelmed by certain highly
anticipated superstar snoozefests. Vertigo's Greatest Hits closes out a jolly good run, and a douche with a giant face for a torso doesn't get nearly enough time to shine.

that YOU DO WANT TO MISS. Landridge's Muppet Show charms, Abnett and Lanning deliver across the cosmic board, and Ubu Bubu

mixed bag, none of this week's comics screamed for Crap of the Week.
Watery books like Submariner: the Depths and Spider-Man Human Torch: Bahia de los Muertos float to the top, as does Abnett and Lanning's start on War of Kings, which breaks Aaron and Evie's hearts on behalf of Ronan the sad, sad Accuser.

This special double-sized* episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to
you by "inch time foot gem," which proves there is sadly no such thing
as a LOLBuddah, or something. In yet another week where good books get
fricking canceled, we tip our hats to She-Hulk and Blue Beetle, but say a warm, desperate hello to the healing pencils of Takeshi Miyazawa on two favorite titles. Be
sure to stay tuned (or fast forward if you get bored) until after the
closing music, when Saddest Guardian™ Scar brings you a
not-to-be-missed bonus Origins & Omens backstory about Evie and

This (late, apologies) episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Two and a Half Men! Two and a Half Men! Two and a Half Men! who, it must be said, have done it again. Evie and Aaron freak out a little over X-Factor #39, and strenuously respect but deny Peter David's request not to spoil it. As a result of all this Dark Crisis Faces of Death Evil Reign of Bad stuff being a big downer during this new real-world era of Hope and Change (and bankruptcies and layoffs), Marvel's delightful all-ages books win big, although Dan Slott also gets major points for bringing actual Avengers back to an Avengers book.

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the Forkies,
who are enraptured. In a week where the Big Two fight for easy press,
the biggest story for us is the beautiful conclusion of I Kill Giants, which made Aaron cry even harder than the end of Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Captain Britain and MI13
turns in another fine chapter, and two series starring kick-ass ladies
come to a premature end. SPOILER: Batman died. SPOILER TWO: Batman will
be alive again soon enough. Happy new president week!
ALSO: Because we got a lot of follow-up questions to last week's show--here is the link to the iTunes store for Aaron's band, or search for "The Ampersands" (album called "And") at Rhapsody, Napster, eMusic, CD Baby, or wherever you get those things. |

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is sponsored by... oh lord I can't

on. It's a colon-friendly show as Black Lightening: Year One, Submariner: The Depths, Sandman: The Dreamhunters,

plugs his band, and Evie gets weepy over hamsters in love. Starring
special guest stars the Philadelphia Eagles.

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every

praise for Hercules, Incognito and Gigantic,
but find the Holocaust disappointing. New Year's resolutions include
less eating and more shitty music. Also, could we see some more
Wolverine in '09? We'd really like to learn more about what makes that
